| TisWas Logo |
London - the cosmopolitan, icon city boasting avant-garde social constructs, staunch colonial traditionalist, a Royal family and eclectic humour appreciated by few (yes, I hate Mr Bean!)... throw in some Boy George and Hugh Grant-like whimsical romance and you get a city resonating with character in the minds of those who haven’t and may never explore the British playground
When I say playground, in no way am I suggesting that the logo was designed by a group of toddlers with an abundance of magenta coloured clay, Nope...in fact the logo was designed by Wolff Olins and cost a hefty £400,000...which I was shocked to read was designed with the intention of symbolizing the number 2012! Really?
Some sources say the Logo was designed with the objective of reaching and engaging young people, others have noted that indeed the logo does reach out to the younger target audience...say about 4 year olds 20 years ago with its uncanny resemblance to the Old school programme Tiswas...
So is it a case of not listening? When BBC reported that 80% of online users felt negative towards the logo and went as far as commenting that the logo resembled Lisa Simpson in a precarious oral position, or the Swastika...are people really shocked that the Islamic republic have now jumped on the bandwagon. Apparently the logo spells out a pro-Israeli racist conspiracy- namely ZION. Beware, BoneyM might want a cut from the Royalty fee’s soon!
Whatever the consensus, The Olympic brand has been designed for years with the hosting country’s elements or culture taken into consideration. This time round I’m not so sure! Whatever your thoughts are, the logo does cause controversy and makes for interesting banter. Perhaps a logo of this nature was only designed to have young people like myself talking about it, not to like it! If you haven’t exercised your daily gag reflex yet, visit creative designer blog of Jacob Cass for more examples of awful logos and why a logo doesn’t cost $5 (and what it should look like when it costs £400,000) http://logodesignerblog.com/bad-ugly-worst-logo-designs/

Thats crazy! I agree, the logo doesnt represent the country as past Olympics have...
ReplyDeleteIts a bit like little Britain on the ridiculous scale...only cleaner - bad taste - not much imagination and a rehash of what has been...EPIC FAIL
